My relatives and I reserved the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre in Sea Cows Bay for our family reunion. On Aug. 2, it rained most of the day. The centre was a mess. The place was flooded. On the side of the building by the sea, some of the windowpanes were missing, so the water kept pouring in and wetting the floor. The restrooms were flooded from the water that was leaking from the high ceiling. In the kitchen, the lights didn’t work, leaving us in a dark kitchen to serve our food. The kitchen cabinet doors are falling off.

My relatives came from all over the United States for this occasion, and this is the memory that they took away from my village. I paid $100 to use the centre, and I was very disappointed.

Both of the political parties are blaming each other for the deterioration of this important building. I want these politicians to stop playing politics and get on with doing the people’s work.
