After allegedly pointing a handgun at police officers, trying to flee on foot, and being hospitalised for injuries, a scooter rider has been charged with three counts of assault, police said Monday.

Randale Hanley, 30, also was charged with carrying an unlicensed firearm, driving without a driver’s licence, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving without insurance, according to police.

Officers responded to a lone-scooter wreck last Thursday near Delta Gas Station, where Mr. Hanley sustained visible injuries, police said Friday.

While awaiting an ambulance, he took out a handgun, pointed it at three officers on the scene, and attempted to escape on foot, police said. He was captured by the Armed Response Team.

He then was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries caused by the scooter wreck.
