Bob Pickering, the proprietor of the Domino service station in Baughers Bay, is recovering quickly after receiving three gunshot wounds to his upper body during an apparent robbery attempt Saturday night, his mother said this week.

“He’s doing a lot better,” his mother, Enid Pickering, said Tuesday. Mr. Pickering’s eye is swollen, but specialists say it will recover. A bullet is lodged in his temple, but doctors think it will be possible to leave it there without any ill effects, she said.

“They think he’s gonna be all right,” she said. “They’re just monitoring him all the time. The bullet hasn’t damaged his brain, so there’s no major operation.”

Mr. Pickering will likely be in the hospital another week; then he’ll stay in Miami for an additional week for observation, his mother said. After that, he’ll ultimately run the gas station again, she predicted.
