A man was hospitalised with gunshot wounds after a shooting Sunday evening in the Purcell Estate area, police said.

“Preliminary reports indicate that multiple gunshots were heard shortly before 9 p.m.,” police said in a press release. “Officers responded promptly and began canvassing the area to locate the scene.”

Later, they said, a “male of Spanish descent” arrived at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital with gunshot wounds.

“The vehicle he arrived in also showed what appeared to be extensive bullet damage,” the release stated. “He is currently in serious but stable condition.”

Investigators recovered several spent shells at the scene, suggesting that multiple rounds were fired, according to the press release. As police continue to investigate, they are urging anyone with details that may assist them to contact their Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS).
