A week after Terrance “Terry” Smith was shot in Road Town, police carrying out a search warrant at his Butu Mountain home last Thursday discovered a loaded Glock 0.357-millimetre pistol under his bed, Crown Counsel Annjel Flax-Solomon told Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo Friday.

Mr. Smith was not asked to enter a plea to the two charges laid against him Friday: possession of a firearm without a licence, and possession of explosives without a licence for the rounds found in the gun.

Ms. Flax-Solomon said that nine rounds of ammunition were found inside the gun, and that when questioned by police, Mr. Smith denied any knowledge of the firearm. She did not say whether police found any fingerprints on the gun.

Mr. Smith’s attorney David Penn asked the court to grant bail so that Mr. Smith can receive medical attention related to his shooting the previous Thursday in Road Town.

“There was an attempt on his life,” Mr. Penn said. “He was shot five times in a drive-by shooting.”

Ms. Baptiste-DaBreo agreed to put off the plea until July 17, and granted Mr. Smith $50,000 bail with a surety.
