Skydive Virgin Islands owner Jake Strain said he took a woman who was more than 90 years old skydiving on St. Thomas last month.

If a nonagenarian can do it, there shouldn’t be any excuse for Virgin Islands residents not to experience the thrill as well, Mr. Strain said.

VI residents and visitors may have the chance to accept his challenge on Nov. 5, when he plans to open Skydive VI at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

BVI Airports Authority Director of Operations Coy Levons said on Tuesday that no agreement has been finalised with the company — he plans to meet with Mr. Strain this week to discuss his proposal — but the Skydive VI owner said he’s planning to take off from the airport and parachutists will land at the airport or nearby.

“On St. Thomas and St. Croix, we have to land a few miles from where we take off,” he said. “It puts a bind on how many tandems we can do in a day.”

Mr. Strain said his company will still operate mainly out of St. Thomas, and will only offer dives from Beef Island on the weekends and by appointment.
