Mr. James, a student at the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre, was patiently waiting with about 25 other participants who were signing up for the Lions and Leos 10th Anniversary Games for Persons with Special Needs.

“A lot of athletes are here with a lot of zeal and energy,” Lion Jeremy Hodge said before the event.

The games were last held in 2012, he added, joking that the year off should have given athletes plenty of time to rest.

Some participants had enough energy to enter and win multiple races, including overall winner Shemouy Manning, who took first place in the 100-metre dash, a counting race, and a beanbag race.

Lions Club of Tortola President Heskith Newton said the games are held as part of the Lions Club International World Service Day.
