Swimming

For two consecutive weekends at the end of July, a mixture of young children and adults spent 16 hours in the swimming pool and in the sea learning to swim and honing their swimming skills.

The Anegada Swim Fest was spearheaded by Laura Vanterpool and Sue Wheatley. Tortola’s more experienced instructors Philippa Exton, Rebecca Nockolds and John Williams were on hand for the event.

The sea training was led by Angelina Evans and Melvin Vanterpool who taught “survival swimming techniques” such as life-saving and using jean pants as floatation aids, as well as the four basic strokes.  Additionally, they learned how to handle  waves and currents.

The pool sessions were held at Anegada Beach Club.
