Softball
The Hurricanes defeated the East Invaders 7-1 to even the playoff series at 2 games each and set up a sudden death game on Friday at 9 p.m. The game was called due to rain with the East Invaders batting in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and the Hurricanes leading, 8-1. The score at the end of six innings is recorded as the official final score. Neville Smith who relieved Roy Hill in the third inning bested Allen Smith who went all the way for the Invaders. The game between the Blue Wings and Reds was postponed due to rain. They will face off again on Friday at 7 p.m.
Running
The second leg of the CERES JUICES 10k road running series will be held on Saturday. The race will be the same course as the first event, but shortened by 100 metres. The race will start at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds at 6:30 a.m. with registration from 6 a.m. The course will be the ‘City Circuit’ extended out to Prospect and Purcell roundabouts. Waterstops will be provided near Peebles Hospital and the traffic lights. There is no fee and an award ceremony will be held at the end of the series.
Football
The BVI Football Association’s Terry Evans Knock Out Cup is back after a three week break. The tournament will resume on Sunday at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds at 4 p.m. The second semi-final between Old Madrid and the defending champions Islanders will take place under the lights on Wednesday July 20. Kick off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The winners will then face off in the final which will take place on July 24 at 4 p.m.
Track and Field
Six athletes will represent the territory at the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, July 15-17. Keron Stoute and Omar Jones will contest the field events of high jump and the javelin throw.
Ashley Kelly, Britney Wattley, Karene King and Darnetia Robinson will tackle the female sprinting events while Chantel Malone will cut the sand in the long jump. Mses. Wattley and Robinson will be using the competition as a tune up for the Pan Am Jr. Championships in Miramar, Florida on July 22-24.
