FIFA approved the Virgin Islands to host the second leg of the Football World Cup preliminary qualifier against the USVI on  July 10 at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds. The match will kick off at 3p.m.

Cricket

NAGICO Insurances will sponsor the BVI Cricket Association’s domestic 20-20 cricket tournament on Virgin Gorda, which is scheduled to begin in the second week of July. The BVI Cricket Association held a meeting with representatives of all teams interested in participating in the tournament on June 27.  At the meeting, the teams were briefed on matters relating to rules for the tournament, code of conduct for players, prizes for winning teams, and umpiring and scoring arrangements. The start date for the tournament is Sunday 10 July. Teams can make payments for this year are asked to contact the BVICA’s Assistant Treasurer Ivor Fraser at 543-7487. Cheques must be made payable to the BVI Cricket Association.

Cycling

The BVI Mountain Bike Club will host the 2011 edition of the Tour de Tortola on July 10.  The mountain bike race begins in Road Town on the dual carriage highway next to Wickhams Cay II at 7 a.m., registration will be from 6:15 a.m.  There will be a modified Fun/Novice course which will follow the full course route until taking a right turn over Zion Hill and a right turn at Cappoons Bay towards Carrot Bay.  It will follow the full course route again until the top of Little Dix Hill where it will turn right down Little Dix and right again at the East End Police Station joining the main course route back to the start.  This course is approximately 35 miles.  The race will include categories for juniors, experts, veterans, masters, senior masters, grand masters, Women and fun/novice mountain bike riders.  Trophies will be awarded for the first three places in each category and all other riders will receive a medal of participation.  There will be refreshments provided after the race and there will be four water stops along the main course.  Entry fee is $10 for Mountain Bike Club members and $20 for others.  For more information contact: bvimtbclub@gmail.com
