Police charged Glenville Callwood, 20, of Baughers Bay, with burglary after he was caught riding a scooter reportedly stolen from a Baughers Bay apartment, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Ms. Drayton said Royal Virgin Police Force officers identified Mr. Callwood as the person who fled from police when they tried to stop him recently while he was riding a scooter in Road Town.

She said the scooter was confiscated and later linked to the owner, who reported that his apartment had been burglarised a week prior to the arrest.

Scooter thefts continue to be a problem throughout the territory.

Eight of them have been reported stolen so far this year, with another two theft attempts that failed, Ms. Drayton said.

Four of the scooters have been recovered, she added.

Police listed descriptions of the four missing bikes, asking residents to help police find them: a red Haitong JS-125-10 stolen from an apartment in Towers, West End; a blackPhantom stolen from the area of Fishers Cove Hotel in Virgin Gorda; a red-and-black bike that wasn’t described furtherstolen from the Belle Vue Methodist Church; and a red-and-silver Lincoln stolen from West End.

Anyone with information can contact Criminal Investigations through the RVIPF access number 311, Ms. Drayton said.
