For 15 H. Lavity Stoutt Community College students, a semester’s worth of effort with countless hours spent at computer screens tweaking lines of code came to a conclusion last Thursday.

The computer science students displayed their capstone projects — websites, databases and computer applications — for classmates and community members.

As part of their coursework, the students worked closely with businesses on projects with real-world applications, some of which may be used by the companies, according to Fidel Captain, an HLSCC instructor.

“They actually went out there and they spent some time with these companies and they developed some sort of computerised solution for them,” Mr. Captain said.

As an example, he said that five students worked to redevelop the website of Maria’s by the Sea. Other students worked on database projects for government agencies or private businesses.
