One person was recently arrested for questioning in connection with the Sept. 3 killing of 25-year-old Azim Yonnas of Butu Mountain, police said Friday.
However, no charges have been announced.
The arrest by detectives of the Major Incident Team followed an extensive investigation spanning more than three months, according to the Police Information Office.
“Initial enquiries revealed that [Mr.] Yonnas was in the Long Bush area when he was pursued by two armed, masked individuals and was fatally shot,” police said in a Friday statement.
“While the investigation remains ongoing, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force assures the public that exhaustive efforts are being made to collect all necessary evidence and ensure a comprehensive and fair legal process.”
Stressing the “importance of transparency,” police promised to provide updates as they become available, while also “upholding the integrity of the investigation.”
