Deloitte & Touche will host the Summer Swim on June 26 at Smugglers Cove.
The event will consist of three races, which will vary in degree of length and physical ability. The first race is two miles and will start at 8 a.m. It will be followed by a 1/2 mile race at 9:30 a.m. and a “fun swim” of 200 metres at 10:30 a.m. for children 12 years and younger
The motivation behind the Summer Swim is to encourage and promote swimming as a competitive sport in the community among adults and children, according to statement sent by Deloitte.
“Swimming is a sport that has tremendous potential in the BVI,” said Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche and Tortola Sports Club President Mark Chapman.
Organisers hope to spark an interest in all levels of swimmers.
Ogier and the Tortola Sports Club have partnered with Deloitte to organise the event.
The admission fees will go towards Kids At The Sea, a programme that provides sailing, diving and swimming lessons to children. The participation fee is $20 and children under 12 compete for free.
Registration for Summer Swim is June 24 at the TSC. Beverages and a barbecue will be available to all participants and spectators.
