For next the two and a half months, six Virgin Islands teenagers will be hard at work preparing for the Miss Teen BVI Scholarship Pageant.

The event, scheduled for Oct. 11, at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, will feature Jemesha Nibbs, Alexandra de Castro, Doneisha Maduro-Findlay, Aschelica Fahie, Kimberly Herbert and Shona Rogers, organiser Rupert Vanterpool said at a launch ceremony on July 13.

During the event, the teenagers explained their platforms, which range from teen pregnancy to youth empowerment.

The competition is not a beauty pageant, Mr. Vanterpool explained: It focuses on the talent.

In the future, organisers hope to start a similar competition for males and a regional pageant for all teenagers, according to Mr. Vanterpool.
