Chutney, soca, reggae, dancehall and calypso were among the music that could be heard during several nights of performances at three separate villages during the August Emancipation Festival season.

Traditionally, the Road Town concerts draw the largest crowds, but this year they were rivaled, if not exceeded, by Carrot Bay.

Still, despite wet weather, the Mighty Rockey Calypso Festiville hosted thousands of attendees on July 29 and 30, as residents gathered to listen to both Virgin Islands and regional bands perform.

R&B singer Maxi Priest headlined International Reggae Night on July 29. As he performed, his dreadlocks, which reached his waist, swayed from side to side.

During his performance, which went on for about an hour, he performed songs including “Close To You,” “Wild, Wild World” and “Just A Little Bit Longer.”
