After a trial that lasted just over three weeks and included testimony from 21 witnesses, three of the five men accused of taking part in the 2011 robbery of MoneyGram have been cleared of the charges.

During the afternoon robbery on Jan. 21, 2011, two men attacked a MoneyGram security guard, Carson Lewis, outside of the company’s Road Town location, according to testimony. Mr. Lewis was shot in the leg, and more than $190,000 that was stolen has not been recovered, prosecutors said.

On June 7, the second day of the trial, Jason Stevens and Leonard Sprauve Jr. — alleged to be the two attackers — pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger lives. They pleaded not guilty to wounding, a charge that was subsequently dropped by the Crown. They are scheduled to return to High Court for sentencing on July 20.

Crown prosecutors argued that three other men — Michael Stevens, Mikhail Howe and Rodney Simmonds Jr. — were also involved in the crime. The men were charged with robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger lives, and wounding.

Those three men have been acquitted.
