On March 2, Ashan Westcott of Tortola crashed his motorcycle into another vehicle in St. Thomas, and police who responded found a loaded handgun in his backpack, according to an Oct. 11 press release from the United States Department of Justice.

The Glock Model 23 0.40 caliber handgun belonging to Mr. Westcott, who was injured in the crash, was discovered by a police officer searching for his ID at the request of an emergency medical technician on the scene, according to the press release.

Mr. Westcott was in theUnited States illegally at the time of the collision, and he was sentenced last Thursday for possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, according to the press release.

“District Judge Curtis V. Gomez sentenced Mr. Westcott to 10 months in prison, followed by a one-year term of supervised release,” according to the press release.
