Tourism Director Clive McCoy led a Virgin Islands delegation to Las Vegas this month for an event hosted by Virtuoso, a global network of luxury travel agencies.

During Virtuoso Travel Week from Aug. 10-16, the VI delegates held about 100 meetings with travel advisors, tour operators and media representatives, according to the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission.

They also handed out VI gift sets featuring local rum, gin, teas and other items.

Besides Mr. McCoy, the delegation included BVITBFC International Marketing Manager Feliza Fenty and Regional Business Development Managers Hazel Penn (who handles Canada and the midwestern United States) and Shaekhoya Matthew (who handles the southeastern US).

Also representing the VI at the event were attendees from The Moorings, Guana Island and Moskito Island Limited.

‘More targeted’ event

Mr. McCoy praised the VI team’s efforts and said he was pleased with the event.

“This year’s event format was more targeted, allowing us to engage with advisors and media who have a genuine interest in the BVI, as well as those with strong business potential,” he said. “Advisors appreciated our presence at the show because, as a board, we provide a comprehensive understanding of the destination — a critical factor for these travel specialists.”

The VI is among the Caribbean destinations recognised as “Preferred Virtuoso Destination Partners,” according to the BVITBFC.

The annual event is designed to connect such partners with Virtuoso members and advisors, the board stated.
