Are you playing the blame game? Don’t beat yourself up if the answer is yes. We all tend to get caught in the unproductive cycle blame creates. Self-review is a necessary and mindful habit to cultivate. It is proven to be a beneficial implement in our daily lives.

Post IrMaria, I have seen incredible displays of love and compassion — and a tenacity that comes along after witnessing complete chaos. The collaborative spirit that was felt throughout the entire Caribbean community since the storms has been downplayed as we continuously criticise political leaders, our governments and one another.

Personally, I have had a change of heart. I stand up in support of a movement to uplift everyone, regardless of status, race, sex or religion. We are all interconnected, sharing the same beautiful paradise. Let’s shift our focus from the faultfinding attitude that is running rampant through the multitude of social media platforms. Let us hold ourselves accountable in each situation we enter into and watch genuine change manifest in our everyday lives and surroundings.

Trade department

With that being said, I would like to take a moment to commend the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs for their pleasant staff, who courteously provide free computer and printing services at the bottom floor of the Sebastian Building.

I also commend the Department of Waste Management at their temporary headquarters in the Social Development Department building. When I spoke with Ms. Penn one morning in the grocery store, she immediately referred me to DWM for assistance and donations to support our team of volunteers who are collaborating with the Friends of Trellis Bay to host a cleanup on May 20. Ms. Penn was the catalyst that renewed my trust in the public service sector. In one moment, I realised that we are truly stronger together, united as a force for good. Let us continue to spread love. One BVI!
