For the second time in less than a month, police are investigating an armed robbery at a business in Sea Cows Bay.

However, they won’t say where exactly the robberies took place.

“The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a popular bar in the Sea Cows Bay area late Monday night,” police said in a Tuesday press release. “Reports indicate that several armed individuals entered the establishment and demanded valuables. No injuries have been reported.”

Police said they responded “promptly” and launched an investigation, but they didn’t provide further details about the incident.

Earlier robbery

They were similarly tight-lipped after an April 20 armed robbery they said occurred at a Sea Cows Bay “business establishment.”

In fact, they didn’t disclose that robbery to the public until May 2, after a week of requests from the Beacon.

“Preliminary reports indicate that around 10 p.m., two armed, masked individuals entered the premises and robbed both staff and patrons of cash and personal items,” Police Information Officer Akia Thomas-Nero told the Beacon at the time. “Officers responded promptly and processed the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as necessary.”

Tight-lipped

Police, who frequently ask the public to help them solve crimes, did not name the business where either robbery occurred or provide any description of the suspects, what they were wearing, what weapons they carried, or how much they stole.

Ms. Thomas-Nero hasn’t responded to requests for the businesses’ names, but a response she provided following a separate incident suggests that police are deliberately withholding the names of targeted businesses.

Asked about the location of an April 28 shooting that police said occurred “outside a popular nightclub in the Free Bottom area,” she told the Beacon that police would “refrain from disclosing the name of the nightclub at this time in order to avoid tarnishing its reputation.”
