Two men were rescued early Monday morning after their boat capsized in the Sir Francis Drake Channel, according to Virgin Islands Search and Rescue Operations Manager Phil Aspinall.

“It was an accident. [The boat] ended up capsized,” he said. “It just started filling with water, then it sank and flipped over.”

The vessel — a chase boat used by a charter company to go out to yachts and conduct repairs — was travelling from Norman Island when it began filling with water, according to Mr. Aspinall.

One crewmember swam ashore to Havers and raised an alarm around 11 p.m., he said.

That’s when police and VISAR responded to the call and found two more crewmembers hanging on to the hull of the capsized boat.

“They were sensible by staying with the boat,” Mr. Aspinall said. “They were fine as well — just a bit soggy.”

No injuries were reported.
