On Saturday 73-year-old Leroy James went to Wickhams Cay I to fly his own kite, but he ended up spending most of his time fixing children’s kites and teaching them about the hobby.

Mr. James, along with dozens of other people, were participants at the Rotary Club of Road Town’s annual Kite Flying Festival.

More than two dozen kites flew near the cruise ship pier, as children ran around the field, played in the bouncing castle or got their faces painted by members of the Interact Club of Road Town.

Mr. James brought along a 42-inch kite made with bamboo sticks. But after a few attempts at flying it, he set it down and started helping children.

“I want to go and register, but oh my goodness, these children’s kites are dropping,” Mr. James said. “They don’t know what to do, so I want to help them out.”
