Until 48 hours ago, most of the lighting at the Ivan Dawson Primary School was outdated, its playground required an upgrade, and just about everything else needed a facelift. Help came Tuesday.

That’s when nearly100 volunteers walked onto the school grounds, donating their time to give the campus a much-needed makeover, Helen Penn, IDPS’ principal said.

A group of workers from FusionStorm, an information and computer technology firm based in San Francisco, took a day off their weeklong vacation to give back to the Virgin Islands.

Decked out in blue shirts emblazoned with their company logo, the volunteers scattered about the school compound, painting swings, planting fruit trees, shoveling sand and doing other chores to give the school a new look.

The volunteers were made up of the firm’s 50 “top achievers” and their guests, according to the company’s president, Dan Serpico.
