A Virgin Gorda man is dead and another has been charged with manslaughter following a stabbing shortly after 8 a.m. last Thursday in Gun Creek, VG, police said.

After the incident, 27-year-old Rasheel Thomas Alexander was transported to the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to a statement the Police Information Office released on Friday.

The same day, police said one male had been arrested, and on Tuesday morning they followed up by announcing that 42-year-old Drew Farrell, of The Valley, had been charged with manslaughter.

As of Tuesday, Mr. Farrell remained in custody pending his appearance before the Magistrates’ Court, police said.

They didn’t provide further information about the stabbing.

The stabbing was the second on Virgin Gorda in less than a week, though police have not linked the two incidents.

Following a stabbing shortly after 7 p.m. on March 15, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, police said two days later.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that a verbal dispute between two individuals escalated, resulting in the stabbing of one individual,” police said in a March 17 press release. “The victim received medical attention for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.”

Police did not provide further information about the incident.
