A Virgin Gorda family will take the stage for Saturday’s

installment of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Performing Arts Series.

The Morris Mark family, which is to perform at 8 p.m. at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, includes father Morris; sons Martino, Marcus and Morris Jr.; and daughter Miriam, according to a press release from HLSCC.

Before arriving in the Virgin Islands in 1964, the father played in a police band and helped start a group in his hometown of Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, the press release states.

Here, he worked as a “strolling singer” at Little Dix Bay Hotel, entertaining dinner guests. Later, he started an electric dance band called the “Wanderers,” which later became “Morris Mark and the Mark 5.”

Over the years, Mr. Mark has composed graduation songs for the Bregado Flax Educational Centre and the Robinson O’Neal Memorial School. Among his most popular songs is “Beautiful Day in Paradise.”

Mr. Mark’s children are also experienced musicians.

Martino has toured as far away as Japan and Ghana, and he has two music videos on Tempo, according to the press release.  Miriam has written, composed, arranged and produced an album.

Marcus, who is also a producer and recording artist, has played with Stevie Wonder, Third World and Steel Pulse, among others, according to the press release. Morris Jr. is a drummer and vocalist.
