They were among more than 200 VG students who participated in a march in observance of Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month on Friday.

As they made their way to Spanish Town, they chanted messages warning about the dangers of child abuse.

Prior to the march, the BFEC Secondary Division cheerleaders entertained the students with a dance routine, and Mrs. BVI Shevone Findlay delivered a keynote address.

“When we hear about abuse and read about such dreadful findings, our hearts are dampened and our minds are enraged in getting even with the abuser, to the point that we sometimes fail to see the journey of recuperation the abused has to face,” Ms. Findlay said.

She also addressed parents in attendance.

“When we are a people of vigilance and immediate action, we decrease the rate of anything that will plague us as a community,” she said.

The same day, the Social Development Department encouraged residents across the territory to wear blue to show support for the cause.
