The Virgin Islands was among several European Union overseas territories represented at the “Islands and Adapting to Climate Change” workshop held recently in Brussels, Belgium.

At the March 29-30 workshop, which was geared towards small islands, delegates discussed ways that OTs can manage climate change adaptation initiatives and strategies, according to Government Information Services.

It also included a series of presentations on work carried out in OTs to address coral reef monitoring, climate change adaptation and the creation of vulnerability assessments.

“Overseas countries and territories are among the most vulnerable to climate change impacts,” said Angela Burnett Penn, the territory’s climate change coordinator. “The Caribbean overseas territories of the UK are currently working on a joint climate change declaration to push our agenda.”
