After months of practice dinners in the territory, the new BVI National Culinary Team has been selected, and its members are preparing for the upcoming Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Florida.

This annual contest, which is hosted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami from June 11-15, according to the BVI Tourist Board.

Besides the contest, the event includes seminars, workshops, tastings, demonstrations, and other options. More than 200 delegates from 12 Caribbean countries and territories plan to attend.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith, the minister of tourism, praised the participants, adding that the competition “is important as we continue to market food tourism as part of our tourism product offerings.”

The 2015 team will be led by Team Manger Chef Henry Prince of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Other team members are Coach Chef Garfield Victor of Village Cay Hotel and Marina; Senior Chef Caswal Ponte of Rosewood Little Dix Bay Resort; Senior Chef Kenneth Molyneaux of Tropical Fusion Restaurant; Chef Tonya Malone of BVI Technical Vocational Institute; Junior Chef Ariq Flax-Clarke; Junior Chef Radiance Modeste; Junior Chef Lakeisha King; Junior Chef Lakesha Barry of HLSCC; Pastry Chefs Neville Tucker of Long Bay Beach Club and Ansony Salmon of Honey & Spice Bakery and Pastry Shop; and bartenders Everson Rawlins of Peter Island Resort Spa and Kishayne Wright of The Dove.
