It was a battle of words during the Toastmasters International Speech Contest at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College on Saturday.

Attendees from around the region participated in the competition, which was part of the Toastmasters Caribbean Conference.

Held in the Virgin Islands for the first time last week, the conference drew about 130 people. It also included a dinner and other activities, which organisers said were successful.

On Saturday, two contests were held: Table Topic and International Speech. During the first, participants were asked an impromptu question and given two minutes to answer. In the second, speakers had more time to prepare.

Bobbi Fawcett represented the Virgin Islands during the International Speech Contest, while Damien Grange spoke at the Table Topic Contest.
