Minister Mark Vanterpool met with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association in Miami to improve relations between the Virgin Islands and the cruise industry, according to a government press release.

“We had a very successful meeting in Miami,” Mr. Vanterpool said Monday night on the National Democratic Party’s radio programme, adding, “They were pleased a minister came.”

Specific concerns outlined by the cruise lines during the meeting included passengers’ first impression on arrival at the cruise pier; a need to make Road Town more pedestrian friendly; and a need to showcase more historical and cultural activities to enhance passengers’ overall experience, the release said.

The FCCA expressed interest in assisting the VI with its plans to further develop the territory as a cruise destination through infrastructural development and cultural experiences.
