Climate change, natural disasters, and energy efficiency are among the topics on the agenda for the inaugural meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Council of Ministers of Environmental Sustainability.

The meeting, which will be held Monday through Wednesday in the Virgin Islands, is being sponsored by the OECS as a way to bring together technical experts on sustainability, according to government. Several ministers with environmental sustainability portfolios are also scheduled to attend.

The meeting is to include “technical and high-level dialogues to foster partnerships,” according to government.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said he is pleased that the VI has been chosen to host another regional meeting.

“Hosting these types of regional events allows us to showcase and market the territory as a prime venue for business conferences and fora,” Dr. Smith said. “As host, we are also better positioned to strengthen our relationships with our Caribbean counterparts as we collaborate on regional issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability.”
