A 28-year-old Virgin Gorda man died of injuries sustained on May 17 when a 17-foot speedboat collided with a dock in Anegada, police said.

Bakimba George, 28, of The Valley, was aboard the speedboat along with a male captain when the boat struck the dock at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Police Information Office.

“Both occupants were thrown forward and sustained injuries to their upper bodies,” according to a police press release issued on Saturday. “The men were transported to the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. However, Bakimba George subsequently died of his injuries. The captain was treated and released.”

The boat received extensive damage, police said.

The release added that officers of the police Marine Branch were working to determine the cause of the collision.
