During a celebration on Friday evening at the Road Town Police Station canteen, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force crowned a new beauty queen.

As the 2024 Miss RVIPF, officer Tresan Sharpe will represent the territory at the True-Blue Beauty Pageant on Oct. 25 in Antigua.

Before the crowning, police officer Zamfir Adams read a short biography of Ms. Sharpe, who works in the RVIPF’s Family and Juvenile Unit.

Ms. Sharpe, he read, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology from the University of the West Indies, and she applies that training to her career as an investigator, child forensic interviewer, and child abuse material grader.

In the future, she aims to create an outreach programme for disadvantaged youths and to further her education with a master’s degree in criminal justice, according to the biography.

‘It works out’

Ms. Sharpe then took the microphone herself and recounted how family and community support helped her overcome her initial hesitance to participate in pageantry.

“Once you’re willing, it works out,” she told the crowd.

Other speakers urged her to carry on the legacy of officer Joevern Webb, who had been serving as Miss RVIPF since 2017 and took home the regional crown during her reign.

Ms. Webb could not attend the ceremony, but in a recording played at the event she encouraged her successor to use determination, hard work and faith. “You will succeed with grace,” Ms. Webb said.

Music

The event was hosted by Mr. Adams and officer Arshmer Mitchell, with musical entertainment provided by this year’s Soca Monarch contestants, including 2023 Soca Monarch J Versatile.

Speeches were also delivered by Shenelca Richards, chairwoman of the RVIPF Pageant Committee; Sean McCall, chairman of the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Associations; and Adrianne Grant-Davis, pageant liaison of the CFPWA.

The committee is now working to build community support for the upcoming Antigua pageant.

As part of these efforts, members are hosting a raffle until Oct. 18.

Among the prizes are a round-trip to Antigua and a 55-inch smart TV.
