Police arrested one of their own on July 29 and charged him with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug, according to the Police Information Office.

Sergeant Troy St. Helen, 39, was interdicted from duty earlier this year because he was suspected of involvement in a Jan. 19 seizure of 259 kilograms of cocaine, a police press release stated.

Mr. St. Helen was scheduled to appear in Magistrates’ Court on July 30, and Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said this week that he was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a $20,000 cash component and two sureties. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 14.

Earlier arrests

Mr. St. Helen is one of three men who have been charged in connection to the Jan. 19 seizure.

The first, government employee Devon Bedford, appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Jan. 29.

During his hearing, a prosecutor said police noticed a powerboat speeding towards a dock sometime after 4 a.m. in Brandywine Bay on Jan. 19.

Officers watched people bring items off the powerboat and onto the dock, then saw two cars exiting the scene, according to the Crown. The police trailed the cars, and later stopped one of them and saw Mr. Bedford run away, the prosecutor alleged. When police searched the car, they found five parcels of cocaine, he added.

Shaun Massicott was also charged last month in connection with the seizure. He was offered bail of $200,000 with two signed sureties and $20,000 in cash, police said at the time. He is scheduled to return to Magistrate’s Court on Sept. 14 as well.
