The body of a woman was found badly burnt among the rubble of a Kingstown house that caught fire on New Year’s Day, according to the Police Information Office.

Police said in a Jan. 2 statement that the woman had been identified, but they did not release her name or explain their decision to withhold it.

The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, and the woman was reported to be trapped in the house, according to the PIO.

Police said they responded along with fire and rescue officers and immediately began efforts to extinguish the blaze.

As of 4 p.m. Jan. 3, they had not provided further information.
