The BVI Football Association has announced a new women’s football committee to help improve the state of the women’s game throughout the territory.

The committee will be responsible for the development of the women’s game from national teams to local leagues. The committee was decided by a vote and consists of:   Chairman Shereen Flax Charles, Vice Chairman Mary Phillip, Secretary Juliana Luke, Public Relations Officer Linda Alexander.

The committee will start work on preparations for the national under-20 female team that will potentially be travelling to Haiti next month to participate in the CFU U-20 qualifying tournament.

The Virgin Islands have been drawn in group “C” along with Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis and Haiti. The team is currently undergoing training  before a potential return to Haiti.

In 2008, the VI competed in Haiti and look to improve on its previous performance against the strong Haitian team.

Wendol Williams tournament

The draw has been made for the 2011 Caribbean Cellars Wendol Williams Knockout cup competition which kicks off this weekend. The competition, which is in memory of the late BVIFA executive member Wendol Williams who tragically passed away in route to the World Cup last year, had 10 teams enter. The draw took place on Monday at the BVIFA headquarters, with five of the 10 teams represented. The draw sees four teams play in two preliminary qualifiers to make the final two quarter final spots.

The ties of the draw are arguably the preliminary qualifier between the Wolues and Sugar Boys and the quarter final matchup between two current champions. One Love who will be firmly looking to retain their title face off against the inform One Love who are looking to build on their stunning Terry Evans Cup win.
