Ferries will resume dropping off passengers at the St. Thomas Bay Jetty in Virgin Gorda today, according to Government Information Services.

Passenger ferries have been rerouted to the Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour since May 1 due to repair work on the jetty.

“The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority’s board of directors, management team and staff extend much thanks and appreciation to the various agencies and departments for their assistance and support during the recent project undertaken on Virgin Gorda,” BVIPA Acting Managing Director Alfred Henley said in a press release.

The repair work finished on schedule and included laying a wearing slab with steel-reinforced concrete on the existing jetty; repairing and replacing bollards; placing new bollards for the cargo ramp; pouring a concrete slab on the entire apron; and installing lighting on the apron, according to GIS.

No money was earmarked for the project in the 2017 budget document.

At the budget debate in February, VG Representative Hubert O’Neal (R-D9) explained that dock had suffered for years because it served as both a cargo and passenger facility, and was beginning to crumble.
