Last year, Lisa Thomas and her 3-year-old daughter Mekayla sat at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall and watched as children from around the territory displayed their dancing talents.

After the show, both the mother and daughter agreed that Mekayla should participate this year. On Saturday, Ms. Thomas sat with her sons and husband watching Mekayla, now 4, participate in the BVI Dance Fest.

The show featured more than 300 dancers, organisers said. Against a backdrop depicting a moonlit scene, the children performed to hip hop, jazz, calypso, pop and other genres in a series of 25 pieces.

“We had a packed house with probably about 1,200 people attending,” said BVI Dance School Director Sandy Lyons, an organiser. “We were very happy with it.”
