There was cause for celebration among most fifth form students on Monday when the School Leaving Examination results were announced.

In keeping with tradition, many wrote congratulatory messages on their classmates’ school shirts.

This year, 252 of the 287 students who sat for the exam passed it and 35 failed, a pass rate that is down from last year, when 261 of 273 candidates passed and 12 failed.

Bregado Flax Educational Centre’s Shea Alexander earned the highest grade point average in the territory, followed by Rhea Sprauve of Elmore Stoutt High School, according to Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn.

At ESHS, 213 students sat for the exams, with 74 passing with grade one certificates, 60 with grade two certificates and 52 with grade one certificates. Twenty-seven students were unsuccessful.

At BFEC on Virgin Gorda, 24 of 29 students passed with grade one certificates, while one passed with a grade two certificate and four were unsuccessful.

Claudia Creque Learning Centre on Anegada produced five successful students, all of whom earned grade one certificates.

Seventh-day Adventist School’s 24 candidates all passed with grade one certificates, and at St. George’s Secondary, nine students earned grade one certificates, two earned grade two certificates, and four were unsuccessful.
