To help ensure safety, several police officers have been assigned to the streets during the August Emancipation Festival season, according to the Police Information Office.

“Be assured that our officers will be conducting regular searches of persons and vehicles suspected to be carrying offensive weapons around, but particularly in or around Festival events and village sites, in order to ensure the safety of members of the public attending or participating in events,” Police Commissioner Michael Matthews said. “We will also be decisive in removing persons who are displaying conduct that promotes disorder, and the public is encouraged to also report any such activity so that all can enjoy the emancipation activities.”

St. Clair Amory, superintendent of territorial and community policing, also reminded musicians, event organisers, and other residents that they have a responsibility to help encourage orderly conduct.

Police also noted that traffic lights at Station Avenue and the James Walter Francis Drive will continue to operate as normal, but the westbound lane of the dual carriageway will be closed to vehicles nightly at 7 p.m. During that time, the eastbound lanes will accommodate two-way traffic.

On Monday, eastbound traffic along the Sea Cows Bay Road to the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School will be rerouted to the service road above the school about one hour prior to the commencement of the August Monday Parade.
