The sun was searing on Saturday, but children attending the 2016 Kiddies Fiesta at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College didn’t seem to mind.

With various inflatable waterslides to choose from, there were plenty of fun ways to beat the heat.

However, for 11-year-olds Shakaeja Dore, Kishelle John, and Kyana Panchoo, one ride stood out among the others: the Blue Crush.

The girls agreed that the 100-feet-high waterslide was the highlight of the event.

“It’s scary and fun,” said Ms. Dore, who was waiting in line to ride the slide for the fifth time.

“It’s just feels fun to come down from a high place,” added Ms. Panchoo.

The girls, all of whom had attended the annual fiesta before, added that they look forward to the event each year.

For other attendees, however, the fiesta was a new experience.

“It’s the first time we’ve been,” said East End resident Annalie Morris, who brought her two children, Josiah and Fizz. “We’re having a great time. They’ve been on everything.”

Fizz, 5, said she especially liked the Blue Crush.

“I was not scared [of riding it],” she announced proudly.

Her brother Josiah, 8, preferred the orange-and-red Lava Twist slide.

“It was really fun and very fast,” he remarked.

In addition to waterslides, the event also included music, food, face painting, train rides, and two inflatable bounce houses.

PAW — a non-profit animal charity based on Tortola — also stopped by the fiesta to showcase a few animals up for adoption.
