I feel it very important that I address information about passports that was reported on the radio on June 19 pursuant to a joint release issued by Government Information Services and the Department of Disaster Management. The report stated clearly that British passports have to be renewed online, and that is incorrect. I can say that because a few months ago I renewed my daughter’s British passport right here.

The problem is that the vast majority of the residents do not know what a British passport is — even the people who work in the passport office.

When I went to renew my daughter’s passport, I asked for an application form for a British passport and it took them a while to understand what I wanted. It was only after I showed them the expired passport where it said “British passport” at the top and “The Virgin Islands” at the bottom. My daughter also has a United Kingdom passport, which has to be renewed online. How do we expect others to do better when we continue to feed them wrong information?

I would like to ask all of you who read this and the news media to verify what I have written and tell me that I am wrong.
