After a “series of incidents” at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre on Anegada, education officials are taking steps including establishing a school management board on the sister island, according to Government Information Services.

In light of recent “concerns” brought to the Ministry of Education and Culture, officials met with faculty, staff and parents on May 4 to “investigate and evaluate the different encounters that transpired” at CCEC, according to a GIS press release, which did not provide further details about the “encounters.”

Now the ministry is implementing solutions including establishing a school management board on the sister island.

Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn had announced on June 27, 2013 that such boards would be implemented at three pilot schools: Elmore Stoutt High School, Bregado Flax Educational Centre, and Althea Scatliffe Primary School. Now CCEC will be added to the pilot programme.

Among other responsibilities, the board will be charged with helping to ensure that issues are resolved faster and that the school’s day-to-day management is more efficient, according to GIS.

Other planned solutions include leadership training for educators; initiatives to strengthen the relationships between teachers, students and parents; and the “re-organisation” of the school and its teaching structure by September 2015.

Attempts to reach CCEC officials for comment were unsuccessful.
