Jevaughn Rhymer was nervous as he prepared to get an acupuncture treatment on Thursday at the Queen Elizabeth II Park.

But he quickly got over it as a staff member from the Hewlett Wellness Centre stuck three needles into each of his earlobes as part of a procedure to help relieve stress and stimulate his brain.

Mr. Rhymer was at the park for the Virgin Islands Alzheimer’s Awareness Advocate’s Brain Games event.
Beginning around 4:30 p.m., about 100 people gathered at the park, where they took part in activities designed to boost brain health, including Sudoku, chess, checkers and a Zumba clinic.

“Exercise helps brainpower and it gives us longevity,” said Lisa Adamson, who taught the clinic. “The more you exercise, the better your brain is. You send out natural endorphins so you get a natural high, and we have more energy.”
