Last weekend the BVI Cycling Federation hosted the Jason Bally Memorial Race and the national time trials.

 

The time trials had 13 male cyclists with the best time going to Virgin Islands rider Orano Andrews. He finished the 10-mile race in 48:54.61 minutes. Andre Simon of Antigua came in second with a time of 50:09.52 minutes. Third place went to Philippe Leroy also of the VI in 51:58.67 minutes.

The rest of the male competitors were from the VI, with the exception of Mark Defour of St. Croix who finished in fourth place.

Four juniors competed in the time trial including Joel Phillip of Antigua who took the top spot. Ricardo Jones of the VI was second, followed by Nigel Fabian of Antigua. Barney Nockolds of the VI was fourth.

In the women’s division of the time trial, Lias Adamson had the best time of 27:24.28 minutes, followed by Sally Blackmore in second and Kay Reddy in third place.

About 30 cyclists competed in the 12th annual Jason Bally Memorial race, which is in honour of Mr. Bally who was fatally shot in Sea Cows Bay after allegedly witnessing a robbery. His murder is still unsolved. In addition to the race, a memorial service was also held for Mr. Bally.

Visiting cyclists from the USVI and Antigua took the top three spots in the Expert Division. Lynn Murray of Antigua won the race in 3:33.07.19 hours, while Mark Defour took second in 3:33.07.4 hours and Andre Simon was third just one second behind.

The top VI expert rider was Mr. Leroy who placed fourth overall.

In the Women’s Division, Ms. Blackmore was first in 2:00.29 hours followed by Ms. Reddy nine minutes later and Johnna Dunne came in third.

In the Under-15 Division, Mr. Phillip took first place and Mr. Jones was first in the Under-17 Division.

The Master’s Division was won by Brian Lyn and the Novice Division went to Eldon Solomon.
