Two men attempted to rob a contractor at gunpoint near a construction site on Gene Hill on Friday afternoon, according to the Police Information Office.

“The assailants came expecting to take funds from the contractor which he should have had to pay his employees,” said Head of Territorial Policing St. Clair Amory. “Fortunately, those funds were not on him.”

In light of the recent incident, police are encouraging businesspeople to use cheques or direct bank deposits to pay workers on worksites.

Police added that one of the robbers was described as 5 feet 7 inches with a slim build and a dark complexion. The other assailant was reportedly a little larger with a lighter skin tone.

Both wore dark clothing with T-shirts over their heads, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Criminal Investigations Department at 311 or the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers’ Miami-based hotline, 800-TIPS (8477).
