Danny Pemberton and Shaniqua Evelyn, both of whom were arrested Wednesday during the police investigation into the Monday murder of David James, appeared before the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to face a charge of unlawful possession of explosives and keeping a firearm without a licence.

The Police Information Office said other charges might be pending.

According to Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly, police found a black handgun and nine rounds of 0.40 calibre ammunition while executing a search warrant in the couple’s home in Sea Cows Bay on Wednesday.

Mr. Pemberton allegedly admitted to police that the gun was his, Mr. Kelly said, while Ms. Evelyn allegedly denied having any knowledge of the weapon.

The couple were then arrested and transported to the Road Town Police Station, where they declined to answer further questions, the prosecutor added.

No mention was made of Mr. James, who was killed in a fatal shooting incident at his home in Purcell Estate on Monday.

Ms. Evelyn was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered to report in with the RTPS on Mondays and Fridays.

Mr. Pemberton was remanded to prison.

The two were ordered to return to court at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19.
