About 40 groups including floats, troupes, majorettes and bands danced from Prospect Reef to the Festival Village on Monday as thousands of residents and visitors watched on.

The kaleidoscope of colours displayed at the annual August Monday Parade was accompanied by soca and calypso music provided by deejays and bands that rode trucks mounted with loudspeakers.

Several beauty pageant contestants and winners led the parade, which began shortly before 2 p.m. and ended at about 7 p.m. Majorettes, children’s groups, and several adult troupes followed.

Many of the parade entries featured African themes. The St. Georges Episcopal Church’s troupe was one example. Participants were all decked out in Ghanaian Kente cloth. The women wore dresses and the men were dressed in wraps that hung over their shoulders.
