The Virgin Islands has participated in a regional HIV testing day since at least 2009, but this year the event was expanded to include other health screenings, such as blood sugar tests and dental screenings.

“It keeps getting bigger and better every year,” said Scotiabank’s Shanica Robin during the fair.

Officials hoped to administer at least 100 HIV tests on Tortola during the event, said Noelene Levons Clarke, head of the National AIDS Programme. The tests were similar to those that measure blood glucose levels, requiring just a drop of blood. Results were available in 20 minutes.

BVI Health Services Authority officials were also on hand, encouraging attendees to eat healthy foods and to take care of their mental health. Massage therapists from La Ambience Spa helped attendees relax with facials and mini-massages.
